Before your visit
Four things that make your appointment quick and your results reliable.
Bring your paperwork
Photo identification, your insurance card and your doctor’s request form. No request form? You can still walk in and ask for a wellness screen.
Check whether you need to fast
Fasting means no food for 8–12 hours. Water is fine, and take your usual medicines unless your doctor says otherwise.
Come at the right time
Some hormone tests must be taken in the morning, and some depend on the day of your cycle. Ask us if you are unsure.
Tell us what you take
Supplements such as biotin, iron and vitamin B can affect results, as can blood thinners and thyroid medicine.
Common questions
Does a blood test hurt?
Most people feel a brief scratch. Tell your phlebotomist if you have fainted before, or if one arm works better than the other. We can lay you down and take our time.
How long will my results take?
Most routine tests are reported the same day or the next working day. Cultures need time for bacteria to grow, usually two to five days.
Who receives my results?
Results go to the doctor who ordered them. If you came without a request form, we will tell you at registration how your result will reach you.
What if a result is outside the normal range?
Always discuss your own results with your doctor. A result outside the range does not always mean something is wrong, and your doctor is the right person to explain what it means for you.
I do not have a doctor’s order. Can I still be tested?
Yes. You can walk in and request wellness and screening tests yourself. They do not replace medical advice, so please review anything abnormal with a doctor.
What will it cost?
Where you have insurance we submit the claim for you. If your insurer does not cover the full amount, the balance remains payable by you. Ask us for an estimate before testing.
This guide is general information about laboratory testing. It is not medical advice and does not replace a consultation. Always discuss your own results with your doctor. — +1 (345) 233-0003 · lab@biolabcayman.com
